Albert Evans Jones (Cynan)

Cynan is famous for being a poet, dramatist and ‘Eisteddfodwr’.

  • 1916: Graduated from Bangor University. He enlisted in the army.
  • 1920: After the war he went to Bala College, and was ordained as Pastor of Penmaenmawr.
  • 1921: Won the Crown at the National Eisteddfod. 'Telyn y Nos' (The Harp of the Night) is published.
  • 1924: Cynan won the National Eisteddfod Chair at Pontypool for 'I’r Duw Nid Adwaenir' (To the Unknown God).
  • 1931: He won the National Eisteddfod award for a full-length play, 'Hywel Harris'.
  • 1935: Appointed Recorder of the Gorsedd. Following his appointment he started reorganising the Gorsedd.
  • 1950-54: Is Archdruid for the first time.
  • 1959: 'Cerddi Cynan, y Casgliad Cyflawn' (Cynan’s Poems, the full collection) is published.
  • 1963-66. Is Archdruid for the second time.
  • 1967: Appointed President of the Court.
  • 1969: He is knighted.
