Dylan Thomas

Dylan Thomas is famous for being a poet, playwright and author.

  • 1930-34: He wrote increasingly mature poems. The poems were published in London periodicals.
  • 1934: His first volume, '18 Poems' is published.
  • 1936: He publishes 'Twenty-five Poems'.
  • 1938: He lived in London. Dylan and Caitlin moved to Laugharne, Carmarthenshire.
  • 1938: He won the Blumenthal Poetry Prize.
  • 1939: 'The Map of Love' appears.
  • 1940: 'Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog' is published.
  • 1941: He starts writing scripts for filming companies.
  • 1944–45: He moved to Llangain and then New Quay.
  • 1949: He moved to live in the Boat House at Laugharne that is now an iconic building.
  • 1952: He published 'Collected Poems 1934–1952' and won the Foyle’s Poetry Prize to international acclaim.
  • 1954: 'Under Milk Wood' is broadcast on the radio.
