Ifan ab Owen Edwards

Sir Ifan ab Owen Edwards is famous for being a lecturer and the founder of Urdd Gobaith Cymru.

• 1912–15: He went to University College of Wales, Aberystwyth.
• 1915–18: He served as a soldier in World War I.
• 1918–20: He went to Oxford University and graduated in History.
• 1920–50: Editor of the children’s periodical ‘Cymru’r Plant’.
• 1922: He founded Urdd Gobaith Cymru. His letter in the January 1922 edition of ‘Cymru’r Plant’ led to the founding of Urdd Gobaith Cymru.
• 1928: He held the first Urdd recreational camp in Llanuwchllyn.
• 1928: He initiated the annual Urdd Eisteddfod.
• 1932: He established an Urdd camp at Llangrannog. He initiated the Urdd sports.
• 1939: It was through his endeavours that a Welsh school was opened at Aberystwyth.
• 1947: He received a Knighthood.
• 1950: The Glan-llyn Urdd camp was created.
