
- After John was brought to Ystumllyn, he was either baptised at Criccieth church or Ynyscynhaearn church near Pentrefelin, Criccieth
- He learnt to speak and write in Welsh and English, and he was taught gardening in the grounds of the mansion.
- He was very skillful with his hands too: he could create wicker baskets, wooden spoons and small boats, and he was a good florist.
- 1768: John married Margaret Gruffydd at Dolgellau, after both had left the households in which they were employed without permission.
- He worked as a land steward at Ynysgain Fawr near Criccieth.
- Eventually John was offered a place at Ystumllyn.
- By the end of his life, he was working for a branch of the Wynn family at Maesyneuadd, Llanaelhaearn.
- John and Margaret moved to a new home, Nanhyran, given by Ellis Wynn in recognition of his service to the Ystumllyn family.
- John and Margaret had seven children.
- 1786: John died of jaundice and was buried in Ynyscynhaearn churchyard.
