
- 1247: Signed the Treaty of Woodstock with Henry III.
- 1255: He achieved victory over his older brother, Owen, and younger brother, Dafydd, at the Battle of Bryn Derwin.
- 1256–67: He had an unbroken series of victories in regional battles.
- 1258: The other Welsh Princes apart from one transferred their allegiance from the King of England to Llywelyn when he declared himself Prince of Wales.
- 1267: The Treaty of Montgomery.
- 1267–77: There was a change in the situation during this decade so that the relationship with England was now more focused on south-east Wales.
- 1275: Llywelyn was due to marry Eleanor de Montfort, but the wedding was postponed because Edward I had kept her prisoner at Windsor.
- 1277: He waged war against Edward I. After the Treaty of Aberconwy, he only retained Gwynedd to the west of the river Conwy.
- 1278: He married Eleanor de Montfort.
- 1282: Eleanor died giving birth to her daughter, Gwenllian.
- 1282: Llywelyn was killed in a battle at Cilmeri by Edward I’s soldiers.
Llywelyn subsequently refused to pay homage to Edward I on the grounds that his life would be under threat should he do so.
