
• 1888: Margaret and Gwen’s mother dies.
• Margaret and her sister, Gwen were educated at Highfield School, Hendon, and through foreign travel, particularly in France.
• 1908: They began seriously to buy paintings.
• The sisters acquired Gregynog mansion just after World War I, intending it to become an Arts and Crafts centre for Wales.
• 1923–42: The Gregynog Press published 42 titles in limited editions; including many of great beauty.
• 1933–38: A music room with an organ was built, holding annual festivals of music and poetry.
• The two sisters were responsible for most of the financial support received by the National Music Council.
• Margaret was a good amateur artist. People called her Miss Daisy.
• 1949: Margaret received an Honorary LL.D. of the University of Wales.
• 1951: Her sister, Gwen, dies. After her death, she developed her collection of paintings to include Bonnard, Kokoschka, Sisley, Utrillo and others.
• 1960: Margaret made her home and estate a major gift to the University of Wales, to be used as a residential conference and artistic centre.
