
- There was a small community of Mormons in the old village of Llandudno on the Great Orme, and it is likely that Martha’s parents were members.
- 1860: The family emigrated to the USA.
- 1878: She went to Michigan University to study for a degree in Medicine.
- She was in a polygamous marriage with Angus Munn Cannon – meaning he had 4 wives. He was also 23 years older than Martha and a father to 17 children.
- 1887: There was a warrant for her arrest and Martha returned to Britain.
- 1888: After returning to the United States, Martha was active in the women’s rights movement, and established a training college for nurses in Utah, then California
- 1890: She returned quietly to Salt Lake City and resumed her private practice and her polygamous relationship.
- 1896: Martha becomes a state senator, the first woman to be elected to the State Senate of Utah.
- 1986: Utah’s Health Department building is named 'The Dr. Martha Cannon Building'.
- 1992: A commemorative stamp is created to remember Martha.
