
• 1792: Became a Christian at 8 years old
• Learnt how to weave to earn money so that she can support her poor family.
• 1792: When she was about 10 years old, she learnt to read in one of Thomas Charles’ circulating schools.
• Regularly walked 2 miles from home to a nearby farmhouse to read the Bible.
• Saved up for nearly 6 years to have enough money to buy a Bible for herself.
• 1800: When she was 15 years old, she walked 25 miles from the Bala to buy a Bible from Thomas Charles. It’s likely she bought one for herself and one for her cousin.
• 1864: Read her bible regularly throughout the years; when she died the book was on the table next to her.
• Mary Jones’ Bible is kept in Cambridge University Library, and the Bible she bought for her cousin is in the National Library of Wales.
• Mary Jones’ story has been translated into tens of languages.
• 2014: Byd Mary Jones World visitor and education centre was opened in Llanycil near the Bala.
