• Non was the daughter of nobleman or chieftain Cynyr of Caer Gawch.
• She was possibly a Nun.
• It is said that she was raped by Sant (Sanctus), King of Ceredigion.
• Non was St David’s mother, and possibly 2 girls, Môr and Magna.
• Saint Gildas found himself unable to preach in the presence of her unborn child. This was taken as a sign that the child would himself be a great preacher.
• A local ruler learned of this pregnancy and feared the power of the child to be born; so he plotted to kill him on the day of his birth, but a massive storm stopped him.
• Non is said to have founded churches in Cornwall, Devon, and Brittany where she is buried.
• The churches named after Non in Wales are all close to churches named after David, which are Llanerchaeron and Llannon in Ceredigion and Llannon in Carmarthenshire.
• A medieval play called ‘Buhez Santes Nonn’ about the life of St Non was performed in Brittany for centuries.
• The festival of Saint Non is celebrated on 2 March in Wales.
‘The Life of St David, written by the monk Rhygyfarch in 1080, focuses mostly on her life as a nun and giving birth to David. This ‘Life’ was written five hundred years after David’s death, with Rhygyfarch drawing on old manuscripts in the cathedral library and oral traditions.’ – ‘Who is St Non?’, Eglwys Gadeiriol Tyddewi – https://www.stdavidscathedral.org.uk/discover/history/St-Non
