• 1948: He became a professional actor. He had roles on the London stage and in BBC dramas, and an opportunity to act on Broadway.
• 1949: He married Sybil Williams.
• 1951: His career took off after excelling in Shakespeare’s plays at Stratford-upon-Avon, and he secured a contract with the Twentieth Century Fox film studio.
• 1961: He played the part of Marc Anthony in the film ‘Cleopatra’, co-starring Elizabeth Taylor and he fell in love with her.
• 1964: He marries Elizabeth Taylor for the first time.
• 1966: He wins a BAFTA award for Best British actor.
• 1970: He is awarded a C.B.E.
• 1972: His brother, Ivor, dies, which was followed by a deterioration in Richard’s professional and family life.
• 1975: He remarries Elizabeth Taylor.
• 1976: Elizabeth Taylor and Richard divorce for the second time. He went on to marry Suzy Hunt.
• 1978: He won a Golden Globe award.
• 1983: Suzy Hunt and Richard are divorced, and Richard marries Sally Hay.
• 1984: Richard appeared on stage for the last time, starring with Elizabeth Taylor in a tour around America of the play ‘Private Lives’.
